Rain Gardens - Volunteer Opportunity

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS! - Interested in helping install a rain garden? Now is your chance!

A rain garden is a new lawn feature that replaces an area of your garden to collect stormwater (rain and melted snow) that is run-off water from your grass, roof, and driveway. The structure of the gardens contains loose, deep soil that absorbs and filters this run-off naturally and prevents the water from entering storm-drain systems.

The plants in these rain gardens help to filter pollutants out of the water before it seeps into the ground, acting like a sponge before slowly releasing it back into the environment. Rain gardens are a new sustainable way to beautify your yard and help protect the environment at the same time!

We are thankful to have this program funded through The City of Kingston from the Kingston Community Climate Action Fund.

At Sustainable Kingston, we are looking to find volunteers who are interested in helping install rain gardens for local homeowners. Help us create gardens that will store and recharge our groundwater system and maintain the natural water cycle while protecting local rivers, lakes, fish, and drinking water sources.
