Pavel grew up bouncing between Great Britain and Alberta and then attended York University in Toronto, where he earned a Master of Environmental Studies in 2007. Since graduating, he served as the Sustainability Coordinator for York University and then as the Sustainability Coordinator for the University of Toronto, as well as taking on several volunteer roles and Board positions in the sustainability space.
Pavel began as the Executive Director for Sustainable Kingston in September 2017. Previously, he was hired as the Operations Director in March 2017 after joining the team as a Policy Analyst in August 2016.
Pavel is a wholehearted advocate for a target-based approach to sustainability, where we set clear goals, engage our members and partners in action-oriented programs and projects, and then measure and assess our impact.
Joanna joined the Sustainable Kingston team in June 2016 as the Events and Operations Manager of the Green Economy program. Since then, she quickly grew into her role and transformed her position to Engagement Manager. Still working closely with the organization’s events, her activities have expanded to work with Sustainable Kingston volunteers and manages all aspects of communications.
Her passion has always been centered on the environment and people. Joanna obtained a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Geography and Environmental Management and earned a Diploma in Environmental Assessment from Waterloo. Her fascination for natural systems led her to complete a post graduate certificate in Ecosystem Restoration from Niagara College. Joanna is constantly looking forward to connecting with the community to strengthen local sustainability efforts.
Anne has spent years doing community-based ecological research in the Yukon, Newfoundland and Labrador, British Columbia, and Latin America. She earned a Master of Science in Biology from Memorial University, where she investigated the impact of climate warming on forest migration, and a post-graduate certificate in Ecosystem Restoration from Niagara College.
Her passion for natural systems is matched by her love for communities. Anne joined the Sustainable Kingston team as Program Manager in August 2017, drawn by the focus on measurable impacts and outcomes in the six priority areas. She is inspired by the momentum already underway in Kingston, and is excited to take part in facilitating further community action.
Program Development Coordinator
Gabriel joined the Sustainable Kingston team in February of 2017 as the organization’s first Program Development Coordinator. He is focused on increasing community engagement in Sustainable Kingston's programs and projects. As a creative and enthusiastic lover of people, Gabriel has embraced his role as a community liaison and is passionate about building relationships and social capacity. He is motivated by both a deep sense of social responsibility and, more simply, the desire to have fun and connect with people.
A native to Kingston, Gabriel returned to the city in 2016 after graduating from Trent University with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies. Prior to Sustainable Kingston, Gabriel worked in landscape architecture, organic farming, forestry, and artisanal butchery. He continues to draw inspiration from the Kingston business community’s growing uptake and commitment to climate action.
We are fortunate to work with a diverse and dedicated team committed to the success of Sustainable Kingston.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors are a group of voluntary members of the Kingston community working together to provide strategic leadership, direction and long-term planning for Sustainable Kingston.
